J.J.'S FAUX ART
In Friday's maternal bed Classic strip J.J. says "Having a kid is the most creative thing I've ever done." Through her lips, was GBT especially sly in expressing his disapproval of J.J.'s faux art ("performance" aspects notwithstanding)? Or perhaps he meant for her to say "procreative."
-
POPULAR
In today's Classic strip J.J. gives birth live on cable TV, but the program is less popular with viewers than Monday Night Football. Those games are probably louder and bloodier than having a baby -- and they are definitely more lucrative.

LITTLE NEMO
Re. Today's "Little Nemo" video: I didn't think cameras were allowed in the Senate Chamber.
-
SOUNDS BETTER
For some reason I remembered B.D.'s line in today's 1988 Classic strip as "Well, gross," not "Oh, gross." I think the former sounds better yet I honestly have no idea why. Shrug.
-
POLITICALLY INCORRECT
I absolutely love how politically incorrect (on several levels) today's strip is! Please keep doing what you've done so well for so many years.
-
WICKED JOKE
"Minty" weed for black homosexuals?! Oh dear, Garry: I'm afraid someone will consider that racist, though I think it is a rather wicked joke on the advertising business.
-
Z-Z BUD
Hey, another option for Z-Z Bud: Zonk could add some nicotine to his weed, and go after the stoner tobacco smokers. Then they would only have to burn and inhale one plant instead of two to get the desired physical effects!

IN OUR HEARTS
Thank you so much for today's Warren Zevon video ! I think that all of his fans are keeping him in our hearts.

CURATING
It's been 14 years since I started reading Doonesbury on this website (and not just in books or newspapers). I was working a rather boring job with nothing but internet time, and every so often I'd play the jigsaw puzzles or Mike's Kwik Kwiz, or watch Duke dispense some wisdom (we still joke about how Jerry Orbach would "crack us like an egg"). Now, I go to you frequently to see what uplifting video you've selected. I appreciate the care you take in curating the mass of material out there, because too much is just as overwhelming as none. Today, the video about the Danish island with a carbon-negative footprint has prompted me to reevaluate our solar options for a small cabin we're building. Thank you for helping me think about things that can be changed, notice things that are worth changing, and keep a bit of perspective on things that make my head want to explode.

SINCE I WAS LITTLE
I am a big fan of Doonesbury, and have read the comics in the paper ever since I was little (I am 35 now) I used to read them to my grandparents, and now my kids read them to me. I would like to thank you for making such an iconic comic strip that I have enjoyed forever.

RICK
I love the contrast between today's 40-years-ago and 35-years-ago strips; Rick has a somewhat less blasé attitude when the one doing the "adulting" is him.
Editor's Note:This post refers to our popular Flashbacks page, which features nine on-this-date-in-previous-years strips. Since that content changes every day, here in BLOWBACK I am linking to the cited strips via the GoComics.com complete Doonesbury archive, so the links will be good indefinitely.

ZEN
I hear ya, Boopsie. In Zen Buddhism we get a lot of people who find themselves and then lose themselves again. Other churches too, they tell me.

ON THE HEAD
When I read this past Sunday's strip I was impressed that someone else feels the same way I do about our Commander In Chief. You hit that on the head. How could anyone understand what he is talking about?
-
FORESHADOWING
Yikes! Zonker and his plants have foreshadowing down to a science in the 35-years-ago-today Flashback strip! Talk about scary.
-
LATELY
The way things have been going lately, Trudeau may end up reprising the 1973 'Guilty, guilty, guilty!' strip.
-
CLASSIC
Today's 35-years-ago Flashback strip is a true classic -- Zonker consoling his friend, the tropical potted plant who is yearning to join the free temperate-zone plants in the wild. A perfectly balanced and profoundly funny strip; dry, well-crafted wit. Thank you.
-
WINK
Yesterday's strip was a fun wink at the 1988 readership, many of whom assumed that Mike, Zonk, B.D., Boopsie, etc. went to the same school as GBT himself. I know how Zonker felt -- I often assumed they all went to Yale!
-
WALDEN
Walden won't accept anyone with a criminal record? No wonder they haven't fielded a championship football team.
-
LOVE IT
I just love it that in today's strip the older generation have their noses in their screens -- but Sam is reading a book!
-
PERFECT
Today's strip is perfect!! Jeremy's skill and wisdom in courtship parallels our President's abilities in the Oval Office.
