  • A BIG UNKNOWN

    Shooshie Roberts | Dallas, TX | November 09, 2016

Doonesbury from 40 years ago today shows us the hazards of drunk voting and admonishes us to cut out the strip to save it for 1988. Oh, I wish Trudeau had said "and also for 2016." At this moment about half the people in the USA feel like their world is spinning, out of control and into an abyss. I'm sure some of the third party voters are now asking themselves "Whatever was I thinking?" It's a big unknown, and we'll only come to know it one day at a time, living with our choices, but we're Americans and we've been through worse and survived. We'll do it again. We can use this unprecedented moment to unite the country and learn how we can fix it. That's all I know to do. Learn. Change. Act.

  • TEDDY BEAR'S PICNIC

    George S. | Jupiter, FL | November 07, 2016

Today's video -- "Teddy Bear's Picnic" --  kinda wraps up the whole last two years.

  • HIT HOME

    Ken Bennett | Yakima, WA | November 07, 2016

I was a medic in CuChi in 1968/1969, and your recent strip really hit home for me. Thanks for your concise comments. We won't forget.

  • IF

    Alix | Pawtucket, RI | November 06, 2016

If (heaven forbid!) Trump actually wins this Tuesday, it won't be for GBT's lack of trying. Bless you, sir.

  • BOARD GAME

    Pete Freeman | Leeds, UK | November 06, 2016

Today's Donald Trump board game is brilliant, absolutely amazing. I want one! Whatever it is that Mr Trudeau does to keep his mind ablaze with such inventiveness, I wish he'd pass the secret on.

  • PORTMANTEAU WORD

    K. DeWitt | Dohuk, IRAQ | November 02, 2016

I have been ignoring the American election as much as possible, but there has been some leakage. After reading the recent Blowback post about Trump's possible new word (that wasn't) I thought I'd share a portmanteau word I thought I heard on the TV news (having failed to hit the mute button fast enough): "Trumpus," combining "Trump" and "rumpus." As in, "That is just another Trumpus."

  • TRUMP

Jim Murtagh | Los Angeles, CA | November 01, 2016

I just realized that Trump may be the first presidential candidate you have pictured as a person. No symbol, no waffle, no helmet. Maybe Trump is his own iconic symbol!

The last thing I do every night is to check if the next day's strip has been posted yet. We need you badly. Keep up the great work.

  • ENLIGHTENED

    Patricia Henry | DeKalb, IL | October 30, 2016

I am so grateful. All this time I thought Trump had invented a new obnoxious word, "bigly," as a synonym for "huge." Thanks to today's strip I realize he's actually been saying "big league." Not since I discovered that Creedence Clearwater Revival was singing about "a bad moon on the rise" and not "a bathroom on the right" have I felt so enlightened.

  • JEREMY

    Richard Hart | Luton, ENGLAND | October 26, 2016

I find Jeremy Cavendish to be a very unsympathetic character. On too many occasions he has behaved like a cad, such as boasting about his relationship with Lacey Davenport after her death, and the way he questioned her relationship with Alice P. Schwartzman. He may appear to be an innocent klutz, but to me it's all an act.

  • DIAGNOSIS

Roger Webb | Little Rock, AR | October 25, 2016

I'm a psychologist, but not a clinician, so diagnosing Donald Trump is beyond my competence -- but let me try. Trump's behavior shows clear sociopathy as well as flaming narcissism, but he lacks the superficial charm characteristic of these disorders and has no sense of humor. He seems to have no empathy, but also no sense of self. My people use the concept of "theory of mind" to explain our ability to see ourselves as well as others, and assume it is part of human genetic endowment. I think fetal Donald Trump was somewhere else the day that got handed out.

  • MISOGYNISTIC SOCIOPATH

    Jenny Marshall | Seattle, WA | October 25, 2016

Thank you, Garry. I loved your Sunday strip. As a Mental Health Counselor I couldn't understand why someone wasn't calling him out for what he is; a mysogynistic sociopath with an anger problem and a trigger finger -- the last person we want in charge of our nuclear weapons! Don't worry about him suing you; there's enough evidence in the DSM-V that you could get a million psychologists to back you up. Good work.

  • PERSPECTIVE

    Scott Jacobsen | Hamilton, CANADA | October 23, 2016

I see you are finally going after HRC today -- "lies like a sociopath." It's good to see some perspective.

  • THE DONALD

Jenny Wettersten | Grand Rapids, MN | October 23, 2016

Ah yes, a referendum on mental health (The Donald's). But rather than being a sociopath, I think he has NPD (narcissistic personality disorder), with some histrionic and antisocial features to be sure!

  • WHOM

    Grant H. | Hamilton, CANADA | October 21, 2016

Re today's Classic strip: "From whom, bro?" Yes! Proper use of "whom"! Grammar lives!

  • LACEY AND CLYDE

    Barbara H. Partee | Amherst, MA | October 18, 2016

Trump challenging Clinton to take a drug test? He's been reading the Flashbacks about Clyde's challenge to Lacey!

    Editor's Note:

Indeed. Check out the current FAQ, which offers a link to the strips from that 1986 storyline.

  • UNDERSTATEMENT

    Terry D. McGee | Sydney, AUSTRALIA | October 16, 2016

So six weeks ago Trudeau took a wild guess that sexual harrassment might become an issue in the election -- but he couldn't guess that "microagressions" would be such a YUGE understatement.

  • MICHELLE OBAMA'S SPEECH

    L.H. | Rockport, MA | October 14, 2016

Thank you for posting the video of Michelle Obama's powerful speech today. I cannot watch it enough times, and I cannot watch it without tearing up because it expresses so many of the overwhelming feelings -- of shame, disgust, indignation, pride, and hope -- that I have felt during this campaign. We should all be proud of Mrs. Obama for speaking these truths.

  • CHICAGO

    Maryhelen Posey | Calgary, CANADA | October 09, 2016

Thank you for Today's Video about Chicago in 1968. I remember it clearly, but never saw the TV discussions of it (and, of course, the Democratic Party Convention itself). I now think that was the beginning of a decline that led us to (among other things) Trump.

  • INSPIRATION

    Pam FitzGerald | Perth, CANADA | October 09, 2016

Garry, your cartoons encouraged me for decades to get out of bed and care about the world ... and all before breakfast. They helped shape my thinking for the better, and I hope I've been able to pass this along in my own small way. We rarely know how we influence others. Thank you for being an inspiration in mine.

  • ROLAND

    Richard Hart | Luton, ENGLAND | October 07, 2016

I have always found Roland Hedley to be the most depressing Doonesbury character because he was once a dedicated seeker of truth and turned into a shill for hucksters and knaves.
