Doonesbury from 40 years ago today shows us the hazards of drunk voting and admonishes us to cut out the strip to save it for 1988. Oh, I wish Trudeau had said "and also for 2016." At this moment about half the people in the USA feel like their world is spinning, out of control and into an abyss. I'm sure some of the third party voters are now asking themselves "Whatever was I thinking?" It's a big unknown, and we'll only come to know it one day at a time, living with our choices, but we're Americans and we've been through worse and survived. We'll do it again. We can use this unprecedented moment to unite the country and learn how we can fix it. That's all I know to do. Learn. Change. Act.

Today's Donald Trump board game is brilliant, absolutely amazing. I want one! Whatever it is that Mr Trudeau does to keep his mind ablaze with such inventiveness, I wish he'd pass the secret on.

I have been ignoring the American election as much as possible, but there has been some leakage. After reading the recent Blowback post about Trump's possible new word (that wasn't) I thought I'd share a portmanteau word I thought I heard on the TV news (having failed to hit the mute button fast enough): "Trumpus," combining "Trump" and "rumpus." As in, "That is just another Trumpus."

I just realized that Trump may be the first presidential candidate you have pictured as a person. No symbol, no waffle, no helmet. Maybe Trump is his own iconic symbol!

The last thing I do every night is to check if the next day's strip has been posted yet. We need you badly. Keep up the great work.

I am so grateful. All this time I thought Trump had invented a new obnoxious word, "bigly," as a synonym for "huge." Thanks to today's strip I realize he's actually been saying "big league." Not since I discovered that Creedence Clearwater Revival was singing about "a bad moon on the rise" and not "a bathroom on the right" have I felt so enlightened.

I find Jeremy Cavendish to be a very unsympathetic character. On too many occasions he has behaved like a cad, such as boasting about his relationship with Lacey Davenport after her death, and the way he questioned her relationship with Alice P. Schwartzman. He may appear to be an innocent klutz, but to me it's all an act.

I'm a psychologist, but not a clinician, so diagnosing Donald Trump is beyond my competence -- but let me try. Trump's behavior shows clear sociopathy as well as flaming narcissism, but he lacks the superficial charm characteristic of these disorders and has no sense of humor. He seems to have no empathy, but also no sense of self. My people use the concept of "theory of mind" to explain our ability to see ourselves as well as others, and assume it is part of human genetic endowment. I think fetal Donald Trump was somewhere else the day that got handed out.

As a Mental Health Counselor I couldn't understand why someone wasn't calling him out for what he is; a mysogynistic sociopath with an anger problem and a trigger finger -- the last person we want in charge of our nuclear weapons! Don't worry about him suing you; there's enough evidence in the DSM-V that you could get a million psychologists to back you up. Good work.

Thank you for posting the video of Michelle Obama's powerful speech today. I cannot watch it enough times, and I cannot watch it without tearing up because it expresses so many of the overwhelming feelings -- of shame, disgust, indignation, pride, and hope -- that I have felt during this campaign. We should all be proud of Mrs. Obama for speaking these truths.

Thank you for Today's Video about Chicago in 1968. I remember it clearly, but never saw the TV discussions of it (and, of course, the Democratic Party Convention itself). I now think that was the beginning of a decline that led us to (among other things) Trump.

Garry, your cartoons encouraged me for decades to get out of bed and care about the world ... and all before breakfast. They helped shape my thinking for the better, and I hope I've been able to pass this along in my own small way. We rarely know how we influence others. Thank you for being an inspiration in mine.
