I am just old enough to recall reading this the first time, so chuckled with the first panel. I cannot tell you how much good this strip did me today. I really needed it. For those of us struggling with Trump anxiety and having a soul when others do not, it helped. Laughter allowed me to breathe. Thank you, Trudeau.

  • TOONTOWN

Joshua Eliason | Givat Ada, ISRAEL | December 01, 2019

Today's POTUS strip is absolute genius. Even that word doesn't do it justice. One for the Toontown Hall of Fame.

  • THE BRICKS

Donald Williams | Little Rock, AR | December 01, 2019

It took me the best part of a half hour to line up the bricks to read: 'IMPEACH NIXON!" Good job!

  • WALL BUILDER

    Charlie Bing | Edmonton, CANADA | December 01, 2019

Too good that you kept Nixon's wall in storage all these years. I guess you just knew that some day it might be needed, and here we are: the wannabe wall builder finally gets his wall. Just brilliant!

  • HISTORY

Mary Asicit | Long Creek, SC | December 01, 2019

    History repeats.

  • THAT WALL

    Brian Harvey | Berkeley, CA | December 01, 2019

I've been waiting for that wall to reappear! Superficially, Trump doesn't feel like Nixon, because Nixon just dug a hole and hid in it, whereas Trump talks a mile a minute on Twitter. But his talk is all subterfuge, a way of hiding in plain sight. They're the same in arrogance and lying. Nice touch with the misplaced bricks, so the young 'uns who don't remember the wall's original appearance will get the idea.

  • UKRAINE

    Charlie | Sumner, ME | October 31, 2019

Re today's "Bridges of Madison County" Classic strip from 1993: Ha! "You must own them, you must impose your will on the scene! Like I did...on the steppes of Ukraine..." The dots are all connected now: Trump got his inspiration from Doonesbury! (How else would he know Ukraine has steppes?)

  • COLD WATER

    Doug McLeish | Romney, WV | October 28, 2019

Sunday's comic hit me like a bucket of cold water. I/we have become so inured to Trump's outrageous behavior, sometimes it takes an unexpected vantage point to realize how far he has gone to debase the presidency and endanger democracy. He would easily be impeached for his dealings with Ukraine if it was a one-off, but because the violations of his oath are so frequent (and so often dismissed, defended and encouraged by his sycophants) we're all proverbial frogs in a pot, being slowly boiled to death. Thanks for the fresh-from-the-past reminder that this really is too hot to continue enduring.

  • RESTART

    Chris Mullin | Pittsburgh, PA | October 24, 2019

Twenty years ago today it was funny. Now it's just depressing. We need your wit and insight to help us through the next thirteen months. Please restart the daily strip!

  • 20 YEARS AGO TODAY

    Bobbie Herman | Fairfield, CT | October 24, 2019

The 20-years-ago-today strip was so true. How could you have known that, long ago? Do you have a crystal ball?

  • EYELIDS

    Grant H. | Hamilton, CANADA | October 17, 2019

AHA! From the FLASHBACKS page, I see that it was 35 years ago today that Mike Doonesbury’s eyelids began to fall into cynical worldliness, as he told J. J. that the ad agency had asked him to do something that went against his conscience and ideals. He had been wide-eyed the previous day, when the agency asked him, for his first assignment, to create an ad promoting Reagan to blacks. And when the company secretary hit on him.

  • TRUMP

    Beth | Roseville, CA | October 13, 2019

Wouldn't Trump be watching this on the prison TV?

  • A TAD UNREALISTIC

John MacKendrick | Las Cruces, NM | October 13, 2019

So you predict that Melania will be by his side when he is out of office? That seems a tad unrealistic to me.

  • DISCONNECTED

Ronald | North Little Rock, AR | October 10, 2019

J.J. is talking to Zonker about being disconnected from reality, and why it's something to worry about...?

  • MEDICAL SCHOOL

    Brian Harvey | Berkeley, CA | October 04, 2019

Was it really only 26 years ago that $10 million was enough to set up a foundation to send kids to medical school?

  • NEARLY 40 YEARS

    Jerry | Calgary, CANADA | September 23, 2019

For nearly forty years I worked overseas and did not have access to a newspaper that carried Doonesbury (or often to any English-language paper), so am delighted to catch up through the Flashback archives

    Editor's Note:

We realize that some users are still being blocked from portions of (or all of) the Doonesbury site by the WaPo pay wall. We are continuing to work on this situation, and appreciate your patience. You can read the strip itself (without MUDLINE, BLOWBACK, SAY WHAT? and the other Dbury site features) here.

  • VOCAL FRY

    Rick Payton | Bozeman, MT | September 23, 2019

I had to explain what "speak in fry" meant. She asked, "Is that a thing now?" I told her it probably would be by tomorrow morning.

    Editor's Note:

Too late! Mike's already been ticked off about it for a while. Check out this strip from January 27th!

  • DEATHS OF THE INNOCENT

James Garner | North Little Rock, AR | September 09, 2019

On today's 1993 Classic daily strip: "Why he didn't pop the other kid too. Makes no sense." Now, 26 years later, the senselessness of the deaths of the innocent has become even more incomprehensible. While the continued rabidity of the gun lobby becomes even more absurd? inhumane? close-mindedly ignorant? Definitely, an affront to civil society. (This strip, like many others, is getting posted on my FB page. Thank you for caring!)

  • LORD HUNK-RA

    Alan Levey | Skillman, NJ | September 06, 2019

I thought Hunk-Ra was left behind in Malibu years ago. He has kept a low profile in Walden. Sam has much to learn about Boopsie’s past

  • NERVE

Ronald | North Little Rock, AR | September 04, 2019

I think a woman who asked a man to betray his marriage vows has a lot of nerve behaving as if she's the mature one and taking the offensive before Mike's even said a word.
